His research activities focus on the management of innovation, and in particular the management of R&D activities in both industrial firms and public and private research institutions. His main interests regard the organisation and evaluation of R&D acitivities and the collaboration between 2 firms and research institutions in the innovation process. In particular, he is doing research about academic spin-off companies, national innovation system in Europe and Latin America, industrial dynamics in the microsystem technology sector. He has written several paper and book chapters on university-industry relationships, science and technology parks, R&D organization, high-tech spinoff companies. He has organised the 1995 R&D Management Conference on “Knowledge, Technology and Innovative Organisations?held in S.Miniato, Italy, in September 1995. With regard to teaching activities, from 1991 to 1999 he has been responsible of the Master course in Innovation Management held at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, where he still teaches in the R&D management sections. He also teaches innovation management at the University of Pisa and the University of Lecce. Among most important collaborations, he has worked with Piaggio, Barilla, Centro Ricerche Fiat, CSELT, Confindustria, some regional industrial associations and with local authorities (Regione Toscana, Amministrazione Provinciale di Pisa, ecc.), for both research and training activities. He is responsible of some international exchange programmes with foreign universities, especially in China, Mexico and Argentina.
